This article examines how professional firms should decide where AI belongs before adoption is driven by individual experimentation or market pressure. Based on interviews with 25 practitioners and participant observation in landscape architecture, we develop an Intentional AI Adoption framework that maps tasks by identity and accountability stakes, protects work that builds professional judgment, and makes experimentation visible to the firm.
